Two of the Philadelphia Phillies’ all-time greatest players are now eligible for induction, so supporters of the team will be keeping a close eye on the Hall of Fame choices moving forward.
As one of the 14 returning players, Jimmy Rollins’ name will be on the roster for the third consecutive season. He still has a ways to go before he meets the 75% requirement to be admitted.
This year, Chase Utley will be running alongside Rollins as another legendary member of the Phillies.
He and 11 other players have their names featured for the first time on the official 2024 Hall of Fame ballot.
The storied second baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies spent just under 13 seasons with the team before being sent to the Los Angeles Dodgers in August 2015.
With the Phillies, Utley was an All-Star six times, and he won the Silver Slugger four times in his career. He was chosen for five consecutive All-Star games between 2006 and 2010, and he won the Silver Slugger four times in that span.
In terms of hits (1,623), doubles (346), home runs (233), RBI (916), runs (949), and total bases (2,766), he is also ranked among the top ten in the team record books.
The second baseman was a superb player and defender. This is evident from the fact that he ranks fourth in defensive WAR (17.7), second in overall WAR (62.0) among Philadelphia’s position players, and
Additionally, Utley played a significant role in the 2008 Phillies World Series winning squad.
Utley may find himself in a similar predicament to Rollins, who is up against it to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Philadelphia is hoping that two of the best players on their second-ever championship team will be awarded baseball’s highest honor, therefore it is definitely important to keep an eye on both players’ candidacies.
