Trippier reveals the causes of his recent dip and breaks his silence on personal issues.
It has been interesting to read Kieran Trippier’s remarks regarding his decline in form and Newcastle United’s difficulties in December after taking a few days to process Tuesday’s loss.
Our vice-captain, who has been “nowhere near” his best for the past month or so, has admitted that his “standards have dropped” as a result of our team losing six of our last seven games.
He acknowledges that his career has had “a lot of setbacks” and that he would not “shy away,” accepting full responsibility for his recent mistakes and another subpar performance in our 3-1 loss to Nottingham Forest.
Regarding the team’s decline, he acknowledges that we’ve fallen well short of the expectations established over the previous 18 months and feels that the difficulty we faced stems from our inexperience in the Champions League and our inability to handle the demanding schedule during a time of injuries and exhaustion.
Ahead of trips to Liverpool and Sunderland during the first week of January, Trippier maintains that we are giving it everything we have to recover and reminds supporters that football is a dynamic sport. He said as follows: “We know we can do better. In the last few games, we have strayed slightly from the standards we have set over the last eighteen months. My performances have not been close to my previous level, and my standards have fallen. I won’t avoid the subject.
“My career has been full of obstacles, and this is simply one more that will need me to persevere and maintain my faith. I’ve always believed that I can recover.
“The club has faced challenges since moving to Europe, and there are a lot of games.” It’s been difficult for the team because most of the players aren’t used to competing in the Champions League.
“The guys have given it their all and worked hard for each other, but we need to start the second half of the season strong. We’ve had a lot of injuries.”
“Teams always experience low points, and we are currently experiencing one, but football is a dynamic sport, so this team will undoubtedly recover.”
