Great news: Dan Ashworth gives a shocking response to the Manchester United storm by taking his seat…
In Newcastle director’s box Newcastle United sporting director Dan Ashworth was getting on with life at St James’ Park despite questions over his future Newcastle United sporting director Dan Ashworth was in attendance at the Magpies’ home clash against AFC Bournemouth – despite intense talk that he is wanted by Manchester United.
Ashworth is understood to have informed Newcastle chiefs of the Red Devils’ interest last week after Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired 25 percent of Man United. Ashworth is deemed their top target as a sporting director but they will face a £10million compensation package.
The interest from Man United raised concerns within St James’ Park that a potential move for Ashworth would hand the Red Devils sensitive and important transfer information. And yesterday head coach Eddie Howe made it clear that the situation needed to be resolved sooner rather than later. Howe said: “We want a quick resolution. It’s better for everybody if that’s the case. At some stage, there has to be a line drawn and things have to move forward. It’s not my decision. I’m not in control of it. Howe also said that he was concerned that information could be handed to Man United on a plate if Ashworth stayed on and a move to Man United followed. He added “Your concerns are relevant. I don’t know quite how much I can say on that, but I share your feelings.”
However, it was business as usual for Ashworth as he took his seat for the game against Bournemouth. Howe will no doubt be quizzed on whether anything has been said since his Friday morning press conference.
