So Funny how Newcastle makes a nasty ‘character’ admission after Jorginho and Arsenal bench’s laughs
Newcastle United failed to show their nasty side during a 4-1 defeat against Arsenal and Jorginho felt so comfortable that he was even able to laugh and joke when he came off at the EmiratesEddie Howe has admitted that he ‘can’t change’ the characters of those players who have come into the side after Newcastle United lost their streetwise edge.
Newcastle was hammered 4-1 by Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday on a night the visitors failed to have a shot in the first half in a Premier League match for the first time in a decade; were unable to win a corner all game; and, most tellingly, made just six fouls compared to Arsenal’s 15 despite the Gunners having the lion’s share of possession.
What a contrast to Newcastle’s last visit to the Emirates when the black-and-whites became the first side to get a point at Arsenal last season and stopped the frustrated hosts from scoring in a goalless draw. Mikel Arteta hissed that Newcastle had ‘never played like this’ on a night Jamaal Lascelles was among five visiting players to be booked after the unused substitute obstructed a throw-in. So how does Newcastle rediscover that nasty edge?
