Aston Villa are reportedly among the clubs interested in signing Leeds United wonderkid Archie Gray.
The 18-year-old was set to sign for Brentford after Leeds had agreed a deal in principle between the two clubs. However, at the 11th hour, Leeds have rejected the Bees’ £40m move, with our sister title LeedsLive claiming the Championship side were unhappy with the structure of the deal.
Gray had travelled down to London yesterday to undertake a medical, but now the transfer has been cancelled. It is unclear whether Brentford will return and satisfy Leeds with a fresh bid.Villa are said to be one of several clubs keeping tabs on the situation, with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur also interested in the Thorp Arch prodigy. The Athletic report that Spurs are currently working on a deal to sign the teenager.
“If I can paint the big picture for you, there are certain things that we need to do, and we will make sure we are fully compliant with P&S, as we always have been,” Marathe said. “And there are certain trade-offs that we have to make and so we’ll have to get to the drawing board and figure out which moves we have to make sure that we are compliant. It’s too early to say.
“Obviously Archie is a tremendous player, as are all of the players who put in so much effort for us, but you know, every season brings change and so I can’t yet comment on it, but we’ll see what happens.
