Kentucky basketball guards Reed Sheppard and Rob Dillingham were both selected in the lottery at the NBA draft on Wednesday night in Brooklyn, New York. It was no surprise that Sheppard went off the board first at No. 3 to the Houston Rockets. However, Dillingham being chosen eighth by the San Antonio Spurs and then getting traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves was surely not an option mentioned in anyone’s mock draft.
2015 (Karl-Anthony Towns, Willie Cauley-Stein). Former Kentucky players Justin Edwards, Antonio Reeves and Tre Mitchell are still available to be chosen in Thursday’s second round, which begins at 4 p.m. ET and will air on ESPN. Here’s a collection of the Herald-Leader and Kentucky.com’s coverage from Wednesday’s first round.
Tonight was a big night for two former Kentucky Wildcats as they heard their names called in the 2024 NBA Draft.
First off the board for the Cats was London (KY) native Reed Sheppard, going to the Houston Rockets as the No. 3 overall pick. He will join the young, talented core in Houston alongside Jalen Green and Jabari Smith as they look to take another step forward in the Western Conference.
A few short picks later, the Cats saw the other star guard on last season’s roster head to the San Antonio Spurs, as Rob Dillingham came off the board with the No. 8 overall pick. Shortly after, it was reported that the Spurs would be trading the pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves, pairing Dillingham alongside Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns.
It is an exciting night for the talented duo, and now the BBN gets to cheer them on as they take the first steps in their professional careers.
